The Stage Manager/Costume Studio Connection

Measurement and fitting appointments: times for these are on a sheet with the people needed, made out weekly or daily as we get closer to the show. The performers are responsible for checking the official Callboard (near the office) every day to see if they are needed. The Stage Manager should check the list before rehearsal to see if the actors have done their part. If they haven't, the Stage Manager can take the sheet to rehearsal, get them signed up, and return the list to the board. OR, the SM can send the actors during the rehearsal to sign it. The sheet should be available for all to see on the Callboard.

The first one of these sheets should be posted with the cast list. Initialing the cast list is done by everyone and if the measurement/fitting sheet is next to it, people will be anxious to sign it, "Wow, I get a costume". For this reason the SM needs to tell the Costume Studio Manager, "Here is your copy of the cast list, I'm posting it right now."

Rehearsal Report Forms: this is a daily record of the show's progress at rehearsal. It can be transmitted to each person via EMAIL. It is most important that these be received at the beginning of the workday so that the studios can plan their work. Who receives this: everyone on the production team, Studio Managers, Stage Steward, Department Head.

The Stage Manager should meet with each Studio Manager once a day for a few minutes to ask and answer any questions not covered on the Rehearsal Report Form. It would be wise to set up a daily schedule if possible. Rehearsal costumes can be checked out and kept locked up with the SM responsible.

The Stage Manager needs to meet with the Run Crew at their first meeting to introduce self and answer questions about responsibilities. The SM will be the person to lock the dressing rooms at the end of every performance.

Paperwork the Costume Studio needs to insure that costumes are ready at First Dress Rehearsal:

Cast List
Contact Sheet
Calendar
Rehearsal Report (daily)
Measurement/Fitting list updates (weekly)

At Strike, all I ask is that any blue gels put into the stairway lights be taken down so that the stairwell is not dark when we take items to the basement.

Please do not set up alternate Callboards as this only causes confusion.

Please do not add extra Dress Rehearsals without consulting the Costume Studio Manager. There are usually other performances and work schedules to consider. Consulting the people involved only makes good sense.
