One of the directors here refuses to follow the order of Dress Rehearsals that we use. We have three, but he always wants another one, and if we gave him that one, he'd want still another. He tries to have a combined lighting cue/costume rehearsal, or a technical run/costume one. This discussion comes up over and over like water torture. When is he going to get the idea?

He is never going to hear what you have to say. Somewhere someone always gave him an extra rehearsal. Write your reasons down and print enough copies for the next times this discussion comes up. Let him ask, tell him politely that you are sorry, but that it can't be done, and hand him the list of reasons. Do this every time. It won't stop his request, but you won't have to spend extra time on it except at the copy machine. To quote one of my former colleagues Julien Phillips: "An extra dress rehearsal? Umm. No, we're just not going to be ready for that."
