About the director who wanted more dress rehearsals, stick to your schedule. We have tried those "combined" types of rehearsals (tech run/dress, cue to cue/dress, etc.) and they do not work. Everyone stands around in costume for hours getting sweaty and wrinkled. Let the other tech areas solve their problems first so that the rehearsal in costumes is a productive one.
--Sarah "Up North Finally"

Where is it that some directors get the idea that the show will magically be better when everyone is in costume? Sure, costumes help, but the show should sparkle whether they are there or not. Maybe a few more acting rehearsals are called for instead of an additional rehearsal in costume.
--Fed Up Fred

We always give the actors rehearsal items as soon as they are off book; petticoats, jackets, shoes, hats, anything that will help them with posture, movement, and character development. They are used until the real items are issued at First Dress. Quick changes are rehearsed in the shop and the QChange booth some days ahead to work out the choreography and add other clasps if needed.
It will take a few years of everything working perfectly before the kvetchers leave you alone. Even then, there's always a new director to train.
